Dynasty Buys and Sells

Each Friday I will be walking you through some Dynasty buys and sells highlighting the players you should be targeting and shifting in your dynasty Leagues.

After a week off due to my holiday, I’m back with some all-important dynasty buys and sells.

Buy

Elijah Mitchell and Cordarelle Patterson

Patterson making his third appearance on this list is a little surprising! However, I still believe both of these guys are still significantly undervalued.

Patterson

Patterson is having a true breakout year. Yes, he is a free agent at the end of the year and so that is causing some uncertainty with his situation. However, players with his level of talent and athleticism that suddenly unlock something don’t disappear. Even if it’s not in Atlanta somebody will make use of Patterson as the offensive weapon he is. Yet people are viewing Patterson as a purely 2021 player. Patterson is good enough to win you a title in 2021 and still be a valuable RB2 next season. Patterson has risen up to my RB19 in Dynasty and I’d be comfortable paying a contender 1st for him. The great thing is that I don’t believe you need to pay that to get him. In most leagues, he is being sold for a 2022 2nd or maybe a 2nd and a 3rd. That’s great value even if he does nothing after this season.

Mitchell

Mitchell on the other hand is being underpriced due to the James Robinson concern. People are worried that his lack of draft capital combined with the 49ers trading up for Sermon could result in Mitchell being passed over in the offseason.

Yes, that is 100% concern. However, I don’t think the concern is worth the reduction in value. Mitchell is a top 10 back Rest of the season for me. Even if he has a 50% chance of being the lead back in San Francisco I’m happy taking that risk.

People quoting the James Robinson concern are valid but to me, there are two big differences. 1. The offensive coaching staff isn’t changing. Kyle Shanahan is staying put no matter what happens the rest of the year. 2. The price for Mitchell hasn’t got close to what Robinson was last season. James Robinson finishing as a top 5/10 back meant at the time people were paying mid 1sts or even multiple picks to secure him. I don’t believe you’d have to pay more than a late 1st for Mitchell if that.

To me, Patterson and Mitchell are the perfect wins now moves to make as a contender with your late 1st round picks. They will help you hugely this year but also offer some underrated value heading into the offseason.

Sells

Alvin Kamara, Joe Mixon, and Saquon Barkley

This one is fairly straightforward; these are some of the most valuable assets in all of dynasty. However, we have seen with Christian McCaffrey and to a lesser extent Dalvin Cook this last week just how fragile their value is. McCaffrey probably halved in value in 24 hours after his injury. At their ages and point in their career, the same is likely to happen if any of these three guys get injured. If I’m competing for a title it’s a tough move to make and you probably need to weigh up the risk-reward proposition of competing for a title but also risk them losing their value. However, I would at least be having conversations with mid-table teams to see if I can pivot to a younger back who is still offering similar production.
