Start ‘Em and Sit ‘Em Week 5

Week 4 proved to be another great weekend of football is behind us, they weeks are going to quickly. We are fast approaching a third of the way through, which makes these start / sit choices so important.

Let’s waste no more time and dive straight into the Week Five start / sits.

Start and Sit Week 5 Quarterbacks

My top-ranked Quarterbacks for Week 5 are:

  1. Allen vs PIT
  2. Jackson vs CIN
  3. Hurts @ ARI
  4. Mahomes vs LV
  5. Herbert @ CLE

Start QB 1- Jared Goff @ NE

Goff has started the season on fire, he is currently the only QB to throw 4 touchdowns in multiple games this year. The lions are the top scoring offense and I expect Goff to be a solid starter this week.

Start QB 2- Tom Brady vs ATL

Brady was back in week 4, he notched up 385 yards and 3 touchdowns which saw him finish as the QB 4 on the week. Just outside my top 5 this week but could easily sneak in.

Sit QB 1- Kenny Pickett @ BUF

Steelers fans were calling for a change last week and they had their prayers answered. Pickett took over half way through week 4 and the offense seemed to take a it up a notch. He has a rough full debut in week 5 against the Bills, sit if you can.

Sit QB 2- Geno Smith @ NO

I do not like the matchup this week. The Saints are only allowing 13.2 fantasy points to opposing QB’s.

Starts and Sits Week 5 Running Backs

My top-ranked Running Backs for Week 5 are:

  1. Chubb vs LAC
  2. Henry @ WAS
  3. Barkley @ GB
  4. Ekeler @ CLE
  5. Cook vs CHI

Start RB 1- Rhamondre Stevenson vs DET

Slowly, but surely, Stevenson is taking over this backfield. His touches have increased every week, The Lions are ranked 2nd worst against the run, allowing an average of 30.7 fantasy points to Running Back groups.

Start RB 2- Devin Singletary vs PIT

The matchup is good, the Steelers are ranked 8th worst against the run. The Bills are heavy favorites and I see Singletary’s usage and opportunity to be very good for fantasy production.

Start RB 3- James Robinson vs HOU

You can forget last week’s production; I see Robinson bouncing back to his previous form and usage against the Texans.

Sit RB 1- Ezekiel Elliott @ LAR

Yet to break 15 fantasy points so far this season and now he heads into his toughest matchup to date. The Rams are the best against the run only allowing 13.9 fantasy points in in total to opposing running back groups.

Sit RB 2- Tyler Allgeier @ TB

I know it’s tempting to start your new shiny toy that you got off of the wire but, if you can just wait a week as it’s the Buccs. They are ranked 3rd best against the running back position.

Sit RB 3- Michael Carter vs MIA

With only 9 carries last week and 3 targets Carter seems to be losing grip of the starting role. B. Hall is leading snaps, touches and goal line opportunities.

Start and Sits Week 5 Wide Receivers

My top-ranked Wide Receivers for Week 5 are:

  1. Diggs vs PIT
  2. Kupp vs DAL
  3. Jefferson vs CHI
  4. Hill @ NYJ
  5. Chase @ BAL

Start WR 1- Mike Williams @ CLE

Through 4 games Williams has been up and down, last week he scored you 19 fantasy points from 7 receptions and 120 yards. I expect more of the same, the matchup is good so start big Mike.

Start WR 2- Christian Kirk vs HOU

I believe last weeks performance was a one-off blip in what has been a great start to his season. I expect Kirk to bounce back in week 5.

Start WR 3- Romeo Doubs vs Giants

Doubs could have had 2 back-to-back fantasy weeks if he didn’t drop that touchdown pass. I feel he will show off his abilities to the UK crowd against the Giants at Tottenham in the early afternoon game.

Sit WR 1- D.J. Moore vs SF

11 targets last week is promising but he hasn’t had more than 13.3 fantasy points this season. The 49ers are the 6th best against opposing WR groups.

Sit WR 2- Allen Robinson III vs DAL

Robinson’s big money move has not gone to plan for fantasy managers through 4 games. His one and only touchdown this season padded that week’s stats, remove the touchdown and he is yet to go over 10 fantasy points.

Sit WR 3 – Diontae Johnson @ Bills

The matchup this week is brutal, add the fact that Johnson is looking to catch passes from a rookie starting his first game in Buffalo and you have real cause for concern. Also, we need to see how the targets are distributed as Pickett had eyes for Pickens when he took over from Trubisky last week.

Start and Sit Week 5 Tight Ends

My top-ranked Tight Ends for Week 5 are:

  1. Kelce vs LV
  2. Andrews vs CIN
  3. Waller @ KC
  4. Ertz vs PHI
  5. Hockenson @ NE

Start TE 1- David Njoku vs LAC

I believe Njoku is in the middle of a mini breakout, week 3 saw him explode and had it not been for a week 4 fumble you would have been happy with his production.

Start TE 2- Dallas Goedert @ ARI

Goedert is consistent, which is not something you can say about the majority of the TE group. Start with confidence against the Cardinals.

Sit TE 1- Irv Smith vs CHI

Smith’s touchdowns in week 2 padded his stats, if you take that away he is not scoring well enough to start. In the last 2 games he has averaged 5.25 fantasy points. Sit if you can.

Sit TE 2- Evan Engram vs Texans

Engram’s week 2 production was an outlier, he has only had 8 targets in the other 3 games. Sit, Sit, Sit!
