For me, making the playoffs is a successful season. Therefore, anything past that is a bonus. Successful fantasy managers will boast that getting there is a skill, research and judgement. But we all know a large part of fantasy success is down to luck and of course, those joyful fantasy Gods! However, you can increase your odds by following the advice of these Starts and Sits Week 14 here at 5 Yard Rush.
For most, the playoffs are just a week away now, so Starts and Sits Week 14 could be the difference between making the dance or not.
As always, we have your back, week 14, Start / Sits, let’s go!
Byes: Colts, Patriots, Dolphins & Eagles
Starts and Sits Week 14 Quarterbacks
My top-ranked Quarterbacks for Week 14 are:
- Allen @ TB
- Murray vs LAR
- Herbert vs NYG
- Mahomes vs LV
- Prescott @ WAS
Start QB 1- Russell Wilson @ HOU
Wilson has been below 20 fantasy points since returning from his bye in week 9. So I expect him to flirt with 20 points this week. He should be a low-end QB1. You can start him against the Texans.
Start QB 2- Kirk Cousins vs PIT
As QB 6 on the season, Cousins has impressed and will be looking to quickly move on from last week’s defeat to the Lions. The Steelers are giving up 18.19 points to opposing quarterbacks, I expect 18 points to be Cousins floor.
Sit QB 1- Matt Ryan @ CAR
Hopefully, Ryan isn’t your only option this week. He has averaged 6.52 fantasy points over the past four games and this week faces a top 5 defence against the QB position, Sit him if you can.
Sit QB 2- Baker Mayfield vs BAL
Mayfield has averaged just 10.47 fantasy points in his last five games. This is due to him battling through shoulder, foot, knee and groin injuries. Sit him this week and hope he has recovered after his week 13 bye.
Starts and Sits Week 14 Running Backs
My top-ranked Running Backs for Week 14 are:
- Ekeler vs NYG
- Mixon vs SF
- Mattison vs PIT
- Kamara @ NYJ
- Harris @ MIN
Start RB 1- David Montgomery @ GB
When playing, Montgomery has seen double-digit carries this season. Although, he may be questionable to start, I see his usage to continue. He is dealing with shoulder, groin and glut injuries. An RB2 option if fit.
Start RB 2- D’onta Forman vs JAX
Foreman saw 19 rushing attempts for the Titans in his last outing. He will be fresh off his bye. And, as a result, I expect the Titans to lean on Foreman here against the Jags. The Jags are allowing 21.94 points to opposing RB’s on the year. Therefore, I expect Foreman to finish inside the top 20 running backs this week.
Start RB 3- Tony Pollard @ WAS
Give him a chance, he will produce. Zeke says his knee is getting better but watching them both run, Pollard has looked the most explosive by far. He has notched up at least 15 points in 3 of his last 4 games. Start him as an RB3 with upside.
Sit RB 1- Devin Singletary @ TB
Singletary has averaged 5.5 fantasy points across his last 3 games and heads to a top 10 run defence this week. Sit him if you can.
Sit RB 2- Mike Davis @ CAR
Davis had a decent week against the Bucs last week. However, it was an outlier. Over the past 7 weeks he has averaged 6.47 fantasy points. He is facing one of the leagues toughest run defence this week.
Sit RB 3- Tevin Coleman vs NO
A decent waiver option whilst Carter has been out. Whilst he may make it through concussion protocols, he will face the number one run defence this week. Sit, if you can.
Start and Sits Week 14 Wide Receivers
My top-ranked Wide Receivers for Week 14 are:
- Adams vs CHI
- Kupp @ ARI
- Hill vs LV
- Jefferson vs PIT
- Johnson @ MIN
Start WR 1- Marquise Brown @ CLE
The Browns are allowing 27.16 fantasy points to opposing wide receivers. Marquise Brown’s last outing against Cleveland was an average performance. He should finish as a high-end receiver 2 this week.
Start WR 2- Amari Cooper @ WAS
I expect Cooper to get back on track this week against Washington. They are allowing 31.83 fantasy points to receiver groups. Start Cooper with confidence.
Start WR 3- Russell Gage @ CAR
Gage faces the Panthers who are one of the best defensive units in the league. I expect week 14 to be Gage’s 3rd straight week with 18 fantasy points or more.
Sit WR 1- Emmanuel Sanders @ TB
The matchup is good in week 14 but Sanders production since his bye week means he can’t be trusted. He is averaging 5.5 fantasy points over his past 3 games.
Sit WR 2- Courtland Sutton vs DET
Unless the Broncos are using Sutton in some kind of rope-a-dope scheme to unleash him in week 14, I sit him. He is averaging 4.4 fantasy points over his last 5 games.
Sit WR 3 – Brandin Cooks vs SEA
Cooks has been the lead receiver for the Texans and whilst he remains the go-to guy, I think he could be a dud in week 14.
Start and Sits Week 14 Tight Ends
My top-ranked Tight Ends for Week 14 are:
- Kelce vs LV
- Kittle @ CIN
- Gronkowski vs BUF
- Andrews @ CLE
- Knox @ TB
Start TE 1- Dalton Schultz @ WAS
The Cowboys tight end has consistently seen between 5 to 8 targets this season. I expect that to continue in this NFC East rivalry matchup.
Start TE 2- Evan Engram @ LAC
Engram lead the Giants in receiving last week. I expect that to continue as the matchup is strong this week. The Chargers are allowing 13.29 fantasy points to Tight Ends this year.
Sit TE 1- Noah Fant vs DET
Along with Sutton, Fant has had up and down weeks. Sit him here as he could finish outside the top12 tight ends this week.
Sit TE 2- Austin Hooper vs BAL
Hooper’s last 2 weeks read like this, 0.00 points against the Ravens and a bye in week 13. He faces the Ravens again in week 14. Mayfield is banged up and this should affect Hooper’s production.
