Week 5 Review, The 5 Yard Showdown

Week 5 Review, The 5 Yard Showdown

Week 5 was another week filled with shocks and upsets in the college game, and the 5 Yard Showdown was much the same with some high scoring affairs and some distressed GM’s on the end of unexpected losses and surprise wins. Can 5 Yard College make up for the previous poor showings against Team Rush?

Week 5: Rush Head-To-Head

Stocks (@5YardRush) V Murf (@Murf_NFL)

It was a match up of the fathers of 5 Yard Rush this week. Murf’s impressive run continues and now sits 2nd overall with the 2nd most points scored in the league, his decision to drop the first week for top players on bye appears to be paying off at this early stage.

Murf managed to score an impressive 128.6 despite losing a starting QB in Alan Bowman to injury early in his match up against Kansas State. His 2nd QB Myles Brennan of LSU scored an impressive 38.15 points to go with Chubba Hubbard’s & Shi Smith’s 26.5 each to see out the victory of Stocks. Murf’s decision to leave Tylan Wallace on the bench with 35.8 points did not affect him in terms of the win.

Stocks himself had some injury issues on the day with his standout RB Rakeem Boyd going off early injured along with his flex QB Hendon Hooker of Virginia Tech also sitting out.

Stocks 97.2 – 128.6 Murf

Phil (@philswain6) V Jamie (@jovington21)

Phil was once again limited on his starting roster only having 6 players in the starting line up. This was surely a mistake as he left 47 points on the bench including QB Spencer Rattler. Some of those that did start for Phil may aswell have not turned up, his 6 starters contributed a total of 19.7 points and 107 all purpose yards. Another week to forget for Phil.

Jamie on the other hand not only won his week match up but ended with the most points of the week despite having both Justyn Ross (out for season) & Ja’Marr Chase (Opted Out) in his line up. The rest of his starters balled out with 4 players scoring over 25 points and 2 almost hitting 20 points.

Kyle Trask continues his impressive start to the season and to Jamie’s team with another big weekly score of 36.6.

Phil 19.7 – 162.25 Jamie

Week 5: College Head-To-Head

Tom (@5yardcollege) V Jack (@JChaldecott)

It was an all college affair between Tom & Jack this week which Jack came out the victor.

It was a close run match up and Tom may be kicking himself for leaving Kentucky QB Terry Wilson on the bench with enough points to have won the match up. He decided to go with Brock Purdy & Charlie Brewer who still showed out well with over 20 points each but not quite well enough.

Jack may have lost WR Seth Williams to injury in the Auburn V Georgia game but the rest of his lineup made up especially Deuce Vaughan who put up a big day and 34.4 points. Even starting K.J Costello with his 3 picks was not enough for Jack to lose this match up.

This was Tom’s first loss of the season and brings Jack level at this early stage.

Tom 120.45 – 129 Jac

Mark (@MarkByrne84) V Matt (@Mattinkster)

Minimum starters this week for both teams yet this still managed to be a decent scoring match up for both Mark & Matt.

Matt saw victory this week largely thanks to Kenny Pickett who put up almost half his points this week (42.55) alongside Pitt WR DJ Carter who topped 25 points for him also. Matt’s 2nd QB Bailey Hockman contributed a total of 0 points and he also decided on no TE this week leaving 11 points James Mitchell on the bench.

Mark is still yet to find himself a win but did however nearly double his total season points this week with 85.25, only way up now surely Mark?

Kellen Mond pushed to get Mark a win with 32.8 points in week 5 on the flip side his other QB Bo Nix had a day to forget against Georgia putting up a measly 6.65 points. Any sort of half decent day from Bo and Mark may well have had his first win of the season.

Mark 85.25 – 96.95 Matt

Week 5: College V Rush

Sam (@papidelasamuelo) V Oli (@Ojhodgkinson)

The first of the Rush V College matchups of week 5 saw Sam go head to head with the undefeated Oli.

It was the same again for Oli who racked up his 4th win in a row and is sitting pretty at the top of the standings. It was definitely a team effort from his team this week with only 2 of his 9 starters scoring under 10 points. The standout though is surely Clemson RB Travis Ethienne who smashed out 35.7 points for Oli.

Sam Ehlinger wouldn’t save Sam this week despite his 37.7 points, roster management was an issue this week for Sam as he was only able to field 8 out 9 players. Unfortunately for him his WR Changa Hodge could not put up any points this week and along with no TE starting these could well have been the differences this week between a win and loss for Sam.

Sam 122.1 – 149.25 Oli

Ash (@Addicted2_FF) V Ben (@englishmansnfl)

Ash may be the highest scoring team in the league but now finds himself at 2-2 after another high scoring match up which he came out as the loser.

Team Ash was undone by his RB choices this week with Baylor’s Trestan Ebner scoring 5.6 points and Auburns DJ Williams contributing 0.6 points. QB’s Trevor Lawrence and Jarrett Guarantano tried their best to win this match up with 38.05 & 28.9 points respectively along with LSU WR Terrace Marshall putting up 20 but it was not to be once again.

Ben won this match up even with having 2 players scoring 0 points with QB James Blackman being on the bench this weekend and Mississippi RB Kylin Hill leaving the game injured.

Alabama QB Mac Jones was the standout for Ben in week 5 with the equal highest points at 42.55. Ben was also solid at every key position with RB Bryce Hall scoring 27.7, WR Jaylen Waddle scoring 25.5 & his flex Amari Rodgers 25.2 points.

Ash will once again be unhappy with his loss despite scoring high but as Murf says you gotta win the tight games and he is becoming the Atlanta Falcons of the 5 Yard Showdown league.

Ash 136.25 – 149.45 Ben

Final Thoughts

Top Scoring Team: Team JJNUFC (Jamie)

Top Scoring Player: Mac Jones 42.55 (Ben) & Kenny Pickett 42.55 (Matt)

Week 5 Result: Team Rush 2-0 Team College

Team Rush continue its dominance against Team College, The College Team need to up their game quickly or this season will be over as a contest sooner than later! Oli continues his unbeaten run and sits 4-0 whilst 4 teams now sit at 3-1. Sam, Mark & Phil are propping up the league at 0-4 but it is still all to play for overall and for individual accolades.

Until Next time Rush Nation, and remember Saturdays are for rushing too.
